Charlotte Haywood

Charlotte is a Director in Social Finance’s International team with over 12 years’ experience working in innovative finance across a range of sectors, as well as previously working for the ADB.

Her work focuses on building coalitions of different financial market actors and structuring transactions that can mobilize additional, more effective funding to support the SDGs.

Since 2022, Charlotte has been working full time with the Innovative Finance Team at the Gates Foundation to design and structure financing instruments across health, agriculture and women’s empowerment. This has included a novel performance-based financing mechanism to mobilize funding for global polio eradication efforts (implemented by the UN and WHO) and a guarantee structure with DFC to support the development of agricultural supply chains in East Africa.

Prior to this, Charlotte managed Social Finance’s work in Liberia, where she worked with government, foundations, and service providers to design, implement and monitor the LEAP program, an innovative public-private partnership in education. She also led Social Finance’s work on the design of the Utkrisht Development Impact Bond, which aimed to reduce maternal and infant deaths in Rajasthan by improving access to, and the quality of care in health facilities across the state.

Before working at Social Finance, Charlotte worked in management consulting, where she focused on the energy sector, and was in the Private Sector Team at the Asian Development Bank. She holds a 1st Class Degree in Economics from the LSE and an MBA from London Business School, as well as CFA (Levels I & II).
